Once we begin floating through the immense wilderness, which surrounds the river canyon, there are only two places where roads reach the river. The first is Pittsburg Landing; this is the take-out point for our 3-day trips, some 4-day. The elevation on the Snake River in Hells Canyon is only 1,’ at the put-in and around ’ at the take-out. This means the weather is typically much warmer than other parts of Idaho.
